This Policy was holistically revised in February 2025, with the intent of making additional revisions as a “tune-up” once the Policy had been put into practice for six months. Among the “tune-up” revisions are the following:
- Section II.3: Adding definition of “Campus” and capitalizing that defined term throughout the Policy;
- Section II.16: Adding “canopies” (tents without sides) to the definition of “Structure”;
- Section III.B.2: Clarifying that displays and Structures should not impede ingress/egress from buildings;
- Section III.B.11: Clarifying that “damage” includes the application of chalk or paint to walls, doors, or other surfaces (except as otherwise permitted in the Policy);
- Section III.B.14: Clarifying that Structures should be used only for their intended purposes (e.g., chairs should not be used to block a pathway);
- Section IV.D: Clarifying that certain Expressive Activities require coordination with CRES;
- Section IV.H: Clarifying that the Chancellor’s designee may approve Non-University reservations of University Space from the first reading day through commencement;
- Section V.A: Clarifying the priority levels for space use by students and individuals;
- Section IX.A.2: Clarifying that written approval from CRES is not required for placement of no more than one table and two or fewer chairs for fewer than two consecutive business days;
- Section IX.C.4: Clarifying that chalking is permitted in the Free Expression Tunnel;
- Section IX.D: Adding a section related to painting inside the Free Expression Tunnel (this language is adapted from N.C. State’s policy);
- Section X: Including eligible Student Organizations as those able to conduct charitable solicitations;
- Section XI.1.a: Clarifying (again) that written approval from CRES is not required for placement of no more than one table and two or fewer chairs for fewer than two consecutive business days.
