Legal Services

Below are descriptions of the types of services provided by the Office of Legal Affairs. Click on the links for more information.


Training Sessions for Faculty and Staff

The Office of Legal Affairs offers monthly open training sessions to UNC Charlotte staff and faculty on a variety of legal topics.


Legal Symposia

Each year, the Office of Legal Affairs presents a one-day free symposium on a variety of legal topics in higher education law.


University Policies

The Office of Legal Affairs maintains UNC Charlotte’s University Policies, a series of policies of general applicability to members of the University community.


Notary Services on Campus

For the convenience of the UNC Charlotte community, the Office of Legal Affairs also maintains a current list of Notaries Public on campus who offer their services to members of the University community.


Legal services NOT provided by the Office of Legal Affairs

The Office of Legal Affairs does NOT advise administrators, faculty, staff, or students on any personal legal matters or any matters that would conflict with the Office’s obligation to represent UNC Charlotte. 


Student Legal Services

UNC Charlotte Student Legal Services, Inc. (SLS) provides free legal advice, limited representation, and resources to enrolled students. SLS is also available for presentations to student organizations and classes to educate students on their rights and responsibilities under the law.

SLS is a separate legal entity from the University and from the Office of Legal Affairs.

SLS is funded by student activity fees through the Student Activity Fee Commission. Services are provided to students at no additional charge.

NOTESLS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that is a separate legal entity from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. SLS operates on campus through an agreement with the University. SLS employees cannot advise or participate in legal actions between university students or against the University, the University of North Carolina System, or the State of North Carolina.
