Policy on Admission to the University

University Policy:
207
Executive Summary:

This Policy sets forth the bases for selection of students and the procedure for applicants to appeal denials of admission.

Policy

I.   All qualified persons are welcome to seek admission to The University of North Carolina at Charlotte.  Specific admission requirements may be found in the University Undergraduate or Graduate Catalogs.

II.  The University of North Carolina at Charlotte does not discriminate in offering access to its educational programs and activities on the basis of age, gender, race, color, national origin, religion, creed, disability, veteran’s status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

III.  Projections of the number of students to be admitted and enrolled in any year shall be determined by:  a) the capacity of the institution to meet the instructional and other needs of students in the colleges, schools, departments, curricula, or other programs to which applicants seek admission, and b) enrollment levels approved for budgetary or other appropriate purposes.

IV.  Those to be offered admission will be selected on the basis of the University’s judgment of the applicant’s relative qualifications for satisfactory performance in the specific college, school, department, curriculum, or other program to which the applicant seeks admission, consideration of the applicant’s potential threat to campus community or property, and the institutional criteria listed above.

V.  The UNC Charlotte Admission Policy must comply with requirements set by the faculty and with the requirements of The University of North Carolina Board of Governors.  It is the responsibility of the admissions offices to apply these standards consistently and fairly.  Applicants who are denied admission may request a review of that decision as set forth in the Admissions Appeal Procedures, attached hereto as Appendix A.
