The Code of Student Responsibility is revised to clarify certain conduct standards, disciplinary procedures, and sanctions, as well as to clarify the role of the Assistant Dean of Students for Judicial Programs in the disciplinary process. Such revisions include:

  • clarifying pre-hearing and investigation procedures;
  • permitting certain hearing panels to be composed of a combination of Administrative Hearing Panel and Student Court Panel members;
  • clarifying the distinction between the disciplinary Code and the criminal justice system;
  • adding several definitions for terms used in the Code;
  • adding "setting fires," "intentionally committing acts that disrupt or interfere with the normal functions of a class," "violating University Policies…on computer and software use," and "gambling" as conduct prohibited under the Code;
  • clarifying the consequences of violating suspension or expulsion;
  • adding a provision on "Post-Enrollment Sanctions";
  • adding "whether the incident was motivated by bias" as a factor that may affect the severity of a sanction;
  • adding the definition of "charter revocation" for groups or organizations;
  • adding a provision for delaying the scheduling of hearings under certain circumstances;
  • clarifying the ability of a student to seek assistance of the Student Defense Office and the University Advocate Office where appropriate; and
  • clarifying procedures for appeals to the Chancellor and beyond.
