Recent revisions comply with revisions to Section 502D(3) of The Code of the University of North Carolina and the new Policy 700.4.1 of the University of North Carolina Board of Governors. Additional substantive changes include reorganization of some provisions and clarification of terms. Substantive changes include:

  1. Revising Section 2, "Authority; Delegation; Exclusive Coverage," to comport with revisions to Section 502D(3) of The Code of the University of North Carolina;,
  2. Changing the term "student" to "party" in relevant provisions, and defining "party" to include a student or a group or organization charged with a violation of the Code
  3. Revising Section 10(o) to prohibit operating a motor vehicle under the influence alcohol or while impaired by the consumption of alcohol;
  4. Revising Section 10(v) to prohibit use of computers in University computer labs that is not related to UNC Charlotte course- and degree-related work and to prohibit violation of University Policies # 66, 67, 10, 20, and 8 on computer and software use;
  5. Revising Section 15(d), "Definite Suspension," to provide that suspension for violation of Section 10(v) may include suspension of access to University computing and electronic communication resources;
  6. Revising Section 15(f), "Expulsion," to provide that expulsion for violation of Section 10(v) includes removal of access to University computing and electronic communication resources;
  7. For group or organization sanctions, chaning the term "Registration Restriction" to "Registration Suspension";
  8. Clarifying that Registration Suspension shall be for a "definite period of time" rather than "usually not for more than one semester in addition to the one in which the violation occurred";
  9. Substantially revising the provisions on notice, hearing, and appeals (Sections 21 through 27) to comply with new Board of Governors' Policy 700.4.1, including providing separate procedures for "Minor Violations" and "Serious Violations" of the Student Code;
  10. Adding a new Section 26(b) clarifying Group or Organization representation in a hearing.
